CROWTHORNE CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL
SPRING TERM - NEWSLETTER
15th January 2008
Dear Parent(s),
Happy New Year and welcome to the children and families who have joined us this term. I look forward to a long and successful partnership working for the benefit of our children.
Attached is a list of dates for the term. Please keep it safe. Further details will follow each event.
Please could I remind you that school starts promptly at 8.50 a.m., the children being allowed in from 8.45 a.m.. We are still getting children coming into school late, on a regular basis. This does not enable the teachers to make a smart start to the school day. Please could you ensure that the children are at school in plenty of time but not in the playground before 8.40 a.m., as there is no one to supervise them prior to this time. Also that if your child takes part in an early morning club they do not arrive before 7.45 a.m. Thank you.
School Uniform - An increasing number of children seem to be coming to school without their ties, or wearing trainers and looking quite aghast when asked why they are not wearing correct uniform.
We are trying to encourage the children to look smart, have a pride in our school and prepare them for the world of work. Please could you support us by ensuring your child is dressed correctly, and has their P.E. kit in school on a daily basis. Thank you.
Breaktime Snacks - As part of our continuing to promote healthy living, children may bring a healthy snack to school to eat at break time. Please could I ask that the children only bring fresh fruit, vegetables or breadsticks for their snack. They are not allowed crisps, sweets, cakes or chocolate biscuits as these are harmful to their teeth and not very healthy. Thank you for supporting us in our endeavours to remain a healthy school.
Activemark status - I am delighted to be able to inform you that we have been awarded Activemark status. Schools receive the mark if ‘90% pupils across the school are doing at least 2 hours high quality PE and school sport a week'.
I know you would like me to thank our staff for their commitment to out of hours activities which have contributed towards achieving this status.
Pupil Details - At the start of each term we update our pupil details. Please could you inform the Office of any change of address, contact numbers and or medical conditions your child may have. It is particularly important to inform school of change of mobile numbers as there have been occasions when we have not been able to contact parents. Thank you.
Assemblies - You are very welcome to join us for assemblies on Fridays at 8.55 a.m. You are also more than welcome on a Tuesday when Rev'd Lisa Cornwell leads our assemblies. A programme for Friday assemblies is being prepared and will be sent out to you once finalised.
Drop In Session - We are holding a "drop-in session" on Thursday 31st January from 4.00 - 5.00 p.m. This is a specifically timetabled time for parents to "drop-in" to discuss any issues with your child's class teacher on an informal basis. You do not need to make an appointment for this.
Ash Wednesday - This falls on Wednesday 6th February this year, so we will be starting school at St. John's Church at 8.50 a.m. for the children in Years 2 - 6. Reception and Year 1 children come to school as normal on that day. Thank you.
Annual Reports - Annual reports will be sent to you this term, on Friday 14th March. Feedback from parents last year indicated this was the preferred term for reports as in the Summer Term parents could discuss pupil progress against the targets set in the Spring Term.
Parents Evenings - These will be held on 25th and 27th March 2008. These will be formal appointments lasting ten minutes each. You will be given the opportunity to book an appointment nearer the time. Please remember if you have any concerns/issues you wish to raise you are welcome to make arrangements to speak with a teacher at the end of the school day.
Year 6 Cycling Proficiency - We are not proposing to provide Year 6 Cycling Proficiency training in school this year unless we have six parent volunteers. In the last few years it has become increasingly more difficult to find parents to undertake this. Every group of 10 children requires two trained adults who are prepared to attend one training session lasting 1 ½ hours and then to commit themselves to up to 10 hours of training, either after school or at weekends. Bracknell Forest Borough Council do offer intensive Cycling Proficiency courses during the Easter and Summer holidays if we cannot provide this service this year. If any Year 6 parent feels they could commit themselves to this course please let the Office know as quickly as possible. Thank you.

Lost Property - We have a large quantity of lost property in school. This will be put out in the hall after school on Friday 18th January. Please ensure you come in and check if anything belongs to you. We will have to dispose of unclaimed items as we do not have the facilities to continue to store large quantities of lost property. Thank you.
Should you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to come and see me. I look forward to a hard working term with your continued support.
Yours sincerely
