What will we be learning this half term?
As the days get warmer and brighter, we begin this term with a topic all about plants. The children will learn how to plant seeds and look after their growing seedlings. They will learn the names of plants commonly found in our local area, as well as look at plants around the world and find out about plants that we can eat. Next, we’ll explore the exciting topic of transport, as we think about how transport has changed over the years. We’ll also spend some time looking at space travel and learning about the planets in our solar system. In Phonics, we will be moving on to Phase 4, which means we will be practising the new skill of reading words with adjacent consonants. Maths lessons will focus on counting larger sets of objects, subitising to 6, exploring the “5 and a bit” composition and number bonds to 10, as well as looking at ordinality. In preparation for moving up to Year 1, we will be expecting the children to become more independent in their learning, and they will be put into “Seasons” so that they can earn season points like the other children in Key Stage 1. Our class trip to Odd’s Farm is an important milestone as it’s the first time the children will travel off-site with their school friends – a time for building confidence and having fun! Another confidence builder is our class assembly, which gives every child the chance to participate in a presentation of our learning to their parents and the wider school.
