What will we be learning this half-term?
This half-term begins with a focus on “Under the sea”, as we find out all about the different creatures that live in the ocean, enjoy plenty of sea-themed story books, take part in deep-sea diving role-play adventures and get creative making jellyfish, rainbow fish and mini aquariums. Later in the term we move on to a topic called “Where we live." This topic gives us the chance to learn more about the features of our village and how it has changed over time. We look at maps and aerial photographs and make our own maps showing places we know in the village. We also think about the different jobs people have in the village and in our wider society and encourage the children to imagine what they might like to be when they grow up. In phonics, the main aim is to consolidate our learning so far and ensure that everyone has a secure knowledge of Phase 2 and 3 sounds as well as being confident to blend longer words containing vowel digraphs and consonant clusters. Maths work also focusses on consolidation and assessment, ensuring that every child has the best possible chance to achieve the Early Learning Goals for Number and Numerical Patterns.
Sports Day is always a highlight of the summer term and, of course, we will be preparing the children for the all-important transition to Year 1!
