What will we be learning this half-term?

The coming weeks will be all about making friends with our classmates, our teachers and our Year 6 buddies. We will be getting used to school routines, such as lunch times and tidying up, and finding our way around the school building. A key word is "independence" and the children will be encouraged to do as much as possible by themselves, for example, putting their coats on and peeling fruit at snack time. The children will enjoy exploring all the activities on offer inside and outside the classroom and these will be themed around the topics "Ourselves" and "Fairy Tales". We begin our Little Wandle Phonics programme straight away and the children will start to learn some initial sounds and tricky words. In maths, we will focus on strengthening counting skills, subitising within 3, comparing sets and exploring the composition on 3 & 4, as well as exploring patterns and learning the days of the week. The most important thing is that every child feels happy coming into class each day and has lots of fun activities to talk about when they go home!
