What will we be learning this half term?
This half term we’ll begin by taking a deep dive into the world of dinosaurs, a topic which I know is of special interest to many of the children! We will learn about what fossils are and how they are found. We will become palaeontologists and dig for fossils in our sand area, and there will be a dinosaur museum in the outdoor role play area. The children will be encouraged to be curious and ask questions which we will try to answer by reading information books. The Lunar New Year will give us opportunities to learn about another important festival and the children will enjoy tasting some Chinese Food. This will lead into a topic on Food which will help the children learn about where food comes from and which foods are healthy. In our Phonics lessons we are moving onto Phase 3 and the children will gain confidence reading words containing vowel digraphs as well as expanding their knowledge of tricky words. In maths, the children will continue to develop their subitising skills and explore the composition of numbers within and beyond 5. They will begin to identify when two sets are equal or unequal and connect two equal groups to doubles. They will begin to connect quantities to numerals. Children will also be working with money, exploring 3-d shape and gaining further experience with measuring length and weight using non-standard units.
